2011
In honor of the Youth Leadership Institute's 20th Anniversary, President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, David Chiu, named September 15, 2011 "Youth Leadership Institute Day" in San Francisco.
2010
In October 2010, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors recognized the Youth Leadership Institute for “outstanding commitment to ensuring that the youth voice is heard and engaging new generations of youth leaders ... in San Mateo County”.
2009
In 2009, California Friday Night Live Partnership presented the Youth Leadership Institute’s Founder Maureen Sedonaen with the Visionary Award, named in her honor, to commend her "fearless and tireless leadership" as vital to the success of their statewide network of programs.
The California State Assembly honored the Youth Leadership Institute with a Certificate of Recognition in 2009. The Assembly commended the Institute for “...your outstanding efforts putting into action the principles of the Bill of Rights for Children and Youth by developing strategies for effective social change, through coalition building, training youth leaders, working with elected officials and philanthropy.”
2007
The Institute’s multimedia marketing campaign, "After Too Many," produced by youth leaders in partnership with advertising agency Grey SF, receives six 2007 Addy Awards, and two 2007 Webby Award nominations.
California State Assembly Mental Health Board awarded the Youth Leadership Institute its Exceptional People and Programs Award in 2007.
2006
In 2006, California State Assemblyman Mark Leno awarded the Youth Leadership Institute a Certificate of Recognition for the organization's community work.
2005
Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America awarded the Youth Leadership Institute its "Got Outcomes" Award in 2005 for programs that link environmental prevention strategies and youth development to reduce youth access to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
2004
In 2004, Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America awarded the Youth Leadership Institute its national "Coalition of Excellence" Award for youth council work in Marin County.
2003
United States Department of Health and Human Services awards the Youth Leadership Institute its 2003 Exemplary Program Award for the Institute’s youth councils. The Department identified youth councils as an effective strategy for youth engagement in the public health arena and an approach worthy of replication in other communities.
The Youth Leadership Institute's ad from the education funding awareness campaign "Will we ever learn?" is shortlisted by the 2003 Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.
