The Youth Leadership Institute uses evaluation tools to demonstrate program success and determine the most effective ways to engage in positive change. The San Mateo County Friday Night Live Network convened 15 Friday Night Live adult advisors at Silicon Valley Community Foundation for a training and networking event on the Youth Development Survey, an evaluation tool used throughout the California Friday Night Live system. The survey is an effective way to prove outcomes and demonstrate why programs are viable.

Brian Lau, adult advisor of two Friday Night Live chapters at Sequoia High School plans to "share the survey results with the school administration, to show that the programs are effective and that we are continuing to do good work."
Last year, San Mateo County had the largest number of surveys taken in the state, and this year advisors have already signed up for 172 youth to take the survey. Longtime FNL Advisor, Becky Sha of the Jefferson Union High School District (JUHSD) Peer Educators speaks why she has participated for over five years: "The trainings offered through Youth Leadership Institute and Friday Night Live are invaluable to help youth gain skills and learn how to change their community, because they have a voice and can really make a difference."
