AB-2486 takes Social Host Liability in California to the State Level

Advocacy | Andre Morand | Tuesday August 3, 2010 11:03

On Monday, the California Legislature voted 67-1 in favor of Assembly Bill 2486 - the "Teen Alcohol Safety Act", sending the bill to the governor's desk. The proposed social host law would hold adults who knowingly serve minors alcohol liable for injury or death resulting from the underage drinking.

Should this bill pass into law, California would join a long list of other states that hold adults accountable for supplying alcohol to minors. Similar social host ordinances have already been adopted in many California communities, such as those championed by Youth Leadership Institute in Marin County and Fresno County.
