Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program (CCROPP)

Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program (CCROPP) is a joint effort among health care providers, local government, community organizations, and community members to address obesity in the eight counties of the San Joaquin Valley.

The youth council representing CCROPP in Fresno is improving access to healthy foods in the low-income communities of urban Fresno by partnering with markets, local farmers, and community members.

The council recently completed a healthy corner store conversion. Partnering with a local farmer and the owner of a local convenience store, the youth transformed Latino Market on North Fisher Street in Fresno. Previously selling mostly junk food, alcohol, and tobacco, the market is now a community asset where affordable and quality produce is available to local residents. CCROPP was recognized by Fresno City Council, The Fresno Bee, and other local news stations for positively changing the food environment in one of urban Fresno's food deserts. The youth council is currently creating a video to document the process of a healthy corner store makeover.
