Mission & Values
"The Youth Leadership Institute builds communities where young people and their adult allies come together to create positive social change."
Youth and Adult Partnerships: We are intentional about fostering productive, structured youth-adult partnerships in our programs, trainings, and operations.
Community and Relationship Building: We are committed to having a strong presence in the communities in which we work.
Learning and Teaching: We are creating and maintaining a “learning and teaching” environment that allows us to both capture our knowledge and disseminate it nationally, and even internationally, to youth, practitioners, and policy-makers.
Leadership and Advocacy: We play a leadership role in advocating for public policy and systems change, and we afford youth the opportunity to have such a leadership role as well.
Innovation: We keep the spirit of innovation alive at YLI by piloting new project ideas and creating new modes of working with youth.
Inclusion: We aim to include all youth and community members in our work, and to have programs, staff, and a board that reflect the communities in which we work.
