Building Leadership In New Givers (BLING)
BLING gives grants to community-based projects created and run by groups of young people. All decisions about grants are made by the BLING Team – a group of young people who are trained as grantmakers and who relate to the issues, ideas, and enthusiasm that youth grantseekers have.
Throughout all aspects of BLING, youth are given opportunities to connect with other youth, to make powerful decisions, and to take action that will positively impact their communities.
How BLING Works
- YLI recruits, trains, and supports a BLING Team of up to 10 members who live in Marin and range in age from 12-23.
- BLING has an annual grant cycle through which youth groups can apply for project funds of up to $1,000.
- BLING funds projects that are youth-led, address a real issue or need – BLING members decide which applicant groups to fund based on the guidelines for funding, using information from the application and a presentation by each group.
What to do if you have a project idea and want money from BLING:
- Call YLI’s Marin Office for an application (415) 455-1676.
- If you need additional help, want an application mailed or faxed, or would like more information, contact us.
What to do if you want to become a member of BLING:
- You can also contact us and ask to speak with a BLING staff member.
(Note: BLING is currently a program open to youth in Marin County ONLY).
