Daly City Youth Look at Problem Gambling in Their Community
The San Mateo county Betting On Our Future (BOOF) team focused their "Youth Visionary Award" winning video on Youth Problem Gambling in the Filipino-American Community of Daly City, focusing on these root cause: Street Racing, Access and Product Placement, Lucky Chances Casino, and Family Gatherings.
YLI Training for the Luz Academy of Tucson Builds Skill in Young Leaders
The Youth Leadership Institute provided a two-day hands-on interactive training that provided youth and adults in Tucson AZ the opportunities to build on the following skills: Knowing oneself, Team Building, Voice Development, Leadership Development, Public Speaking, Critical Thinking, Consensus Building, Problem Solving, Honoring self and others, Youth and Adult Partnerships, Conflict Management.
San Francisco Youth Take on Tobacco in Their Community
Youth leaders with San Franciscos Tobacco Use Reduction Force (TURF) tell their story about the impacts of tobacco in their neighborhoods, and what they are doing about it. TURF is a project of the Youth Leadership Institute.
Redwood City Youth Bring Healthy Choices to Their Neighborhood
The purpose of the Healthy Neighborhoods Project is to engage merchants in our community, increase healthy messages and access to fresh fruits & vegetables, and decrease alcohol and tobacco messages. We recently completed our first store makeover and video documenting the process at La Guadalupana, in the North Fair Oaks and Redwood City community.

On November 3, 2008, the SALUD youth council presented their photovoice project along with corresponding findings and recommendations to the Selma City council. Through multi-faceted community assessments, West and East SALUD councils found that: *Kerman has a 5 to 1 ratio of fast food/convenient stores to grocery stores *Selma has an 11 to 1 ratio fast food/convenient stores to grocery stores *Schools lack a variety of produce (beyond apples, oranges, and iceberg lettuce) *There are a lack of places to be physically active *Infrastructure throughout the community is in need (sidewalks, parks, etc.) ***Based on their findings the SALUD councils made the following recommendations: *Introduce a Farm to School Program *Re-establish Farmers Markets in each community *Use city policy to limit the number of fast food outlets *Open school gyms during lunch and afterschool *Fix sidewalks, add bike lanes and more spaces to have fun
