YLI Youth Transform Community With Cornerstore Makeovers

YLI’s Youth Organizing San Mateo County team completed a second corner store makeover in the North Fair Oaks neighborhood, a community where it is difficult to find access to fresh and healthy foods.

Youth replaced alcohol ads from the storefront with cultural art donated by Sol Y Luna Imports and installed new refrigeration units and displays to increase attractiveness of fresh produce. YLI will continue the Healthy Neighborhoods Campaign to makeover three more stores in the North Fair Oaks community through 2013.

This youth team is also a part of the Friday Night Live Youth Coalition. This work is made possible by Kaiser Permanente of Northern California.
